Curatorial Projects: Marrakech
Bringing to light several exhibitions at the previous Marrakech Museum of Photography and Visual Arts in Marrakech, Morocco was such a rewarding project. The opening exhibition, ‘10 Contemporary Moroccan Photographers’ in 2013 featured works by a selection of Moroccan photographers living both in Morocco and abroad and was well attended by the local public and visitors from further afield.
Further exhibitions included solo presentations of work by Don McCullin, Lewis Morley, Daido Moriyama and a group project with Magnum photographers in Marrakech.
Working on exhibitions for the MMP+ while the museum was active was a valuable experience in curating for a public space. The responsibility of the institution is not only to their artists, but the broader public and therefore the social impact is inherently greater than curating for private corporate spaces and homes. We hope to see the museum activated again in the future.
