Appraisal Guide

Comprehensive, written appraisal reports are offered in compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP compliant through January 2026) and current IRS guidelines where applicable. Following an initial discussion to understand the scope of work, a tailored appraisal can be provided for a range of purposes, including:

  • Art Leasing or Rental

  • Damage or Loss

  • Donations

  • Estate Tax

  • Fractional Interest

  • Gift Tax

  • Insurance

  • Resale

Importance of Professional Appraisals

As part of our comprehensive appraisal process, each artwork is meticulously catalogued, ensuring that clients receive a detailed document featuring high-resolution photographs, pertinent information, provenance, and an overview of the current art market context, alongside a relevant bibliography. We collaborate with authenticators and conservators when required to address concerns regarding authenticity or value depreciation due to damage or loss. It is important to note that many online platforms offering free valuations do not adhere to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). This compliance is essential for formal appraisals required for IRS filings, insurance purposes, charitable donations, or equitable distribution.

Comprehensive Appraisal Reports

Art Partners Advisory adheres to the latest USPAP standards and appraisers association requirements. Typically, a single-item appraisal report spans a comprehensive 18 to 25 pages, reflecting a commitment to thorough research and in-depth art market analysis. While digital reports are the standard offering, printed versions of these reports are readily available upon request. Clients are strongly advised to seek appraisers whose reports are not only extensive but also adhere to current professional standards, as shorter or less detailed reports may not withstand legal scrutiny in various contexts.

Competitive Pricing

Our appraisals are competitively priced at $300 per hour (plus applicable taxes) with a minimum of $900 per appraisal. Volume-based discounts and project rates can be negotiated on request for larger collections.

Valuation Estimates are available for a flat fee of $300 (plus applicable taxes) per artwork. These reports provide a value range and are useful to get an estimate of value. Fees paid for these reports will be applied to future work should you wish to proceed with a comprehensive appraisal.
